What are the Lauriers ?

The Lauriers Awards of Quebec Gastronomy is an annual celebration designed to recognize and reward the best craftsmen in Quebec’s culinary culture industry by awarding 15 prices in the form of official statuettes :

The first edition will take place on Monday, April 15, 2018 in Montreal and will take place in 3 stages:

At 6 pm, a Red Carpet welcoming the media and industry personalities

At 7 pm, a Gala announcing the winners

At 9 pm, the big” Industry Party “to celebrate the winners, a festive and grandiose annual event that will become a tradition of the Quebec culinary scene.

What is the Lauriers Brigade?

The official LAURIERS BRIGADE is made up of members from all sectors of the gastronomy industry, and is responsible for nominating and, in part, selecting LAURIERS winners. In any case, a maximum of 2% of the members may come from the same company. Each year of LAURIERS award ceremony, all the nominees and laureates will be invited to join the BRIGADE for successive years. The members of BRIGADE are members for life, except in the case of a voluntary decision to leave or for another reason for dismissal or withdrawal.

Who can join the Brigade?

The brigade is open to professionals in Quebec’s gastronomy industry. “Quebec gastronomy” is understood to mean the chain of food production, processing, distribution and all the activities that end on the plate in food establishments and related trades.

Who are the jury members?

Each year, an official jury of seven (7) official jurors will be appointed jointly by the CA and the LAURIERS Ethics Committee. This jury will be kept secret until the selection of the winners and all members will have to withdraw from the possibility of winning a prize for the current year.

How is the selection process done?

The selection is spread out over several weeks before the annual winners are announced.

Which firm is in charge of checking the results?

The LAURIERS commissioned the external research firm MBA Recherche to conduct the analysis of the winners’ selection process results.

Eligibility
Open to any permanent physical establishment, open seasonally or annually, where meals are served for payment in the province of Quebec.

4. Pastry Chef of the Year

Eligibility
Award open to any individual who is an official pastry chef of an eligible restaurant or who operates an independent pastry establishment.

5. Sommelier of the year

Eligibility

Prize awarded to the principal designer of the wine list of an eligible restaurant, whether sommelier, consultant or wine expert.

  • Accordance of the card with the DNA of the restaurant

6. Mixologist / barman of the year

Eligibility
Open to anyone who has worked as a mixologist or bartender during the qualifying period at a qualifying drinking establishment in the province of Quebec.

7. Best Service Award

Eligibility
Award open to any individual who has worked as a server, supervisor, master D, host, hostess or any other function primarily related to customer service, during the reference period, in an eligible restaurant in the province of Quebec.

8. Food Truck of the year

Eligibility
Price open to any mobile kitchen or automobile serving meals in the public square for a fee, in the province of Quebec.

9. Producer of the year

Admissibilité
Ce prix est ouvert à toute entreprise assurant la production de produits alimentaires, végétaux, animaux, issus de la cueillette ou de boissons sur le territoire du Québec, et ayant vendu ses produits à au moins un restaurant admissible au courant de la période de référence (1 janvier au 31 décembre 2017).

Eligibility
Award open to any individual, organization or company based in the province of Quebec, having set up an initiative (individual or collective) aimed at providing tourist clients (from Quebec or international) with a food tourism experience.

15. People’s choice Laurier Award

The winners’ selection is based on a survey conducted among the general public by a specialized firm mandated by the LAURIERS’ board of directors. The public assessment counts for 100% of the score and the decision must be taken no later than April 1st every year.
